The Los Alamitos Griffins made it gold for two at the US Olympic Games as Justine Wong-Orantes (LAHS ’13) and the US Womens’ Volleyball team joined Rachel Fattal (LAHS ’11) and the US Women’s Water Polo teams as gold medalists.
The two alumni were teammates on the 2010 CIF championship squad when they shared the role of starting setter on a team that went 27-2.
Fattal and the American water poloists won their third straight gold medal, downing Spain 14-5 in the gold medal match on Saturday afternoon Tokyo time. Wong-Orantes and the US Women swept Brazil in their gold medal volleyball match on Sunday afternoon Tokyo time – late Saturday night here in the US. Per Volleyball magazine, the Griffin alum had “had seven digs, five assists, and countless perfect touches and plays that don’t show up in the boxscore.”
