Retired Los Al HS counselor Nona Rafferty celebrated her 70th birthday a little differently this year.
Instead of a cake with 70 candles, she gave $70 to 70 friends with one rule — they give it away to the charity or cause of their choice. Rafferty, a resident of Rossmoor, told friends she didn’t want any material gifts. “What I do want is to be part of someone’s ‘feel-good’ moment. Please give the money away. How you do that is entirely up to you. Touch someone’s life. Let them know you are a link in a chain of paying kindness and gratitude forward.”
