OUR LOS AL is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to support events and activities in the entire Greater Los Alamitos community. We do that through The Taste for Los Al, Los Al TV, and our new mobile smartphone Do Good & Save mobile app.
The organization was first organized in 2000 with the goal of improving athletic and arts facilities at Los Alamitos High School. This was quickly expanded to supporting Los Al HS activities when OUR LOS AL partnered with Los Al HS booster clubs in 2001 to create The Taste for Los Al — an event which now features the food of around 40 local restaurants, and through ticket sales, and revenues from silent auctions, raffles and sponsorships, has raised over $4 million dollars for over 25 booster clubs and activities at Los Alamitos High School.
OUR LOS AL handles the event’s logistics and costs, and with monies raised primarily through beverage sales, OUR LOS AL began helping with facilities and equipment used by multiple activities. These included donations for a new gym scoreboard, improvements to the soccer and lacrosse fields, trainers room, but most of all — over $235,000 to the research, aerial survey, design, and construct of an all-weather track at Los Al HS.
When the new track was dedicated in 2013, OUR LOS AL expanded its mission to help support activities in the greater community, by contracting with the City of Los Alamitos to manage Los Al TV, the city’s access cable TV operation. At the time, the channel could only be viewed in standard definition by cable subscribers on Channel 3 in Los Alamitos and Rossmoor. With cable viewership steadily decreasing — first through satellite services then “over the top” streaming services) , etc., and also because over half of all video viewing is now on a mobile device, OUR LOS AL TV’s goal was to make the channel’s content available in high definition to all local viewers, not just those subscribing to Los Al and Rossmoor cable TV. In summer 2021 we introduced the OUR LOS AL TV streaming app, making content available live and on-demand on all smart TVs through Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV and smartphones.
In summer 2021 OUR Los Al also contracted with mobile app maker Cty611, to develop a community mobile smartphone app, with a goal of being a one-stop resource for community news, events, fundraisers and great deals from local businesses. The OUR LOS AL · Do Good & Save mobile app was soft-launched in December and will be fully released in early 2021.
