Newly energized Burlington — no longer called the Burlington Coat Factory — will open its doors this Fall in the 45,000-square-foot space which once housed Toys R us at the Shops at Rossmoor.
Burlington is actually occupying multiple former Toys R Us locations across the country as part of an aggressive expansion and re-branding that will see them open 54 new locations between now and mid-November.  No firm date has been set for the opening of the new Seal Beach store.
Burlington Styores, Inc., which did $6.6 billion in business last year, now operates more than 670 stores in 48 states and Puerto Rico, including nearly 20 in Michigan, according to its website.
Its second-quarter revenues, announced just this past week, climbed 10.5% y/y to $1.66 billion. Its new store opening increased by 6% increase compared to the same period last year while comparable store sales increased by 3.8%. The results caused its stock price to surged by 10% on the release.
Burlington was founded in 1924 as a wholesaler of suits and women’s coats. In 1972, the first Burlington Coat Factory store opened in Burlington, New Jersey.
