Seal Beach resident Deb Machen, owner of the Marketsnag marketing company, and former Los Al Mayor and longtime council member Troy Edgar were recognized as the “2022 Citizens of the Year” for the cities of Seal Beach and Los Alamitos at the recent Cypress College Americana Awards held March 26 at the Disneyland Hotel.
Machen is a familiar figure with multiple local nonprofits, in leadership and volunteering to write press releases for such groups as the Seal Beach Chamber, the Youth center, the the Seal Beach Lions, and more. She was very involved with the marketing and planning for the Seal Beach Centennial and was recently appointed to the new Seal Beach Historical resources Foundation. Previously, Machen has been honored as Small Business Woman of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce, Woman of the Year by the Tri-City Women’s Conference and received the highest honor of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award by the Seal Beach Lions Club.
Edgar was a Los Al city council member for 12 years and two-time Mayor before being nominated to be the chief financial officer of the Department of Homeland Security. Edgar is a U.S. Navy veteran who then spent more than 30 years as an executive and consultant to companies in the aerospace and defense, automotive, consumer and industrial products, construction, entertainment, government sector, high tech, software and telecommunications industries. He founded Global Conductor, which provided operational strategy and transformation to dozens of Fortune 500 organizations across many industries, and also had an arm which provided boring, excavation and placement of underground 4G/5G telecommunication infrastructure.
In addition to his service with the city of os Alamitos, Edgar served as the Chairman of the Orange County Sanitation District, Treasurer of the Casa Youth Shelter, Vice Chairman of the Orangeline High Speed Rail Authority, and was on the Board of Directors for Tenet Healthcare (LAMC), Orange County Public Library, Orange County Fire Authority, State of California Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, and the Southern California Association of Government.
