Despite a stellar pitching performance by Cole Tryba, the Griffins fell short to league rival and No. 5 ranked Huntington Beach, falling 1-0 on the Oiler fields. Los Al will battle the Oilers again tomorrow (Wednesday).
Huntington Beach is now 3-0 in the Sunset Surf League standings. Los Al is now 1-2, both losses coming to HB. The Griffins had won five of six coming into the game.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Griffins to face Edison, after loss to Corona del Mar
The Griffins dropped their Sunset Wave League opener to Corona Del Mar on Friday by a score of 3-0. The loss dropped their overall record to 15-6. Los Al returns to action n on Wednesday with a home match against Edison. Friday has them on the road at Marina.
In between is a Thursday fundraiser at Crazy Fish Grill.
GIRLS BEACH VOLLEYBALL
The undefeated Los Al Girls Beach volleyball squad returns to action with two matches this week. The girls have a home match against Newport Harbor today (Tuesday) and travel to Laguna Beach on Thursday.
The Varsity, which is now 5-0, downed Corona Del Mar last week.

GIRLS SOCCER: Abusham and Salazar named to All-CIF squad
Amelia (Mimi) Abusham and Marissa Salazar capped off outstanding careers at Los Al by being named to the LA84 Foundation All-CIF Girls Soccer squad.
Abusham, who has committed to attend and play soccer at the Naval Academy next year, led the team with 21 goals and 14 assists. Salazar was second in goals with 19 and added 8 assists. The Griffins finished the season with a 19-6-5 record, another Sunset Surf league Championship, and lost in the CIF semi-finals to eventual champion Temecula Valley.
