Covid may have put a stop to some Boys games, but the Griffin girls notched a pair of wins Thursday evening.
The Los Alamitos Girls Soccer team downed Laguna Beach 2-0 on the loser’s pitch. Senior Mimi Abusham scored two goals, giving her 15 on the year. Junior Katie Piburn added an assist.
Los Al, which improved its record to 7-3-5 overall, begins its Surf League play next Tuesday at Edison.
Girls Basketball
The Los Al Girls basketball team notched its first Sunset Conference league victory with a 64-30 win over Laguna Beach. The win improved the girls record to 13-3 overall. Laguna Beach is now 14-5. Los Al will begin its tough Surf League schedule next Tuesday at Foountain Valley.
Girls Water Polo
The weekend schedule got a little lighter for the Los Al Girls Water Polo team as a surge in COVID-19 cases has led to the cancellation of the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, which the Griffin Girls Water Polo team was scheduled to play in.
The tournament, one of the top girls water polo tournaments, was scheduled to run Thursday through Saturday. Other local teams that were slated to play were the top two CIF Division I teams, Laguna Beach, Newport Harbor — as well as Foothill, Mater Dei, and Orange Lutheran.
