Both the Los Al Girls and Boys fell in their season openers last week. The Girls dropped a 2-1 match to Long Beach Millikan on Saturday, while the Boys fell to Santa Ana 2-1 the day before.
The girls return to the pitch this Friday with a home match against Cypress, a strong program that has been moved up to Division I this season. Los Al then begins the Best in the West tournament action the next morning with an 8am Pool C match against Mater Dei at University High in Irvine, followed by an 11am match against Santiago of Corona. The latter ended Los Al’s season in the CIF playoffs last year so the Lady Griffins will be looking for revenge. The Best In the West Tournament, hosted by Newport Harbor, returns after Covid prevented play last year. The elimination bracket rounds will be played the following weekend. Other top teams in the tourney include JSerra and Harvard-Westlake. The schedule is here.
The Los Al girls will also play once again in the Excalibur tournament hosted by Foothill is Dec. 27-29. Other strong programs in that top-notch tourney are Mater Dei, Villa Park and Huntington Beach among others.
The girls’ program also has a couple fundraisers coming up — a night at Chick fil-A on December 14, and an ongoing Clothing Drive which runs through Jan 9. Click the image to the left for more details. If residents want to participate, contact Girls Soccer.
The Boys soccer program schedule shows they return to action on Dec. 16 and 17 with matches against Warren (of Downey) and Mira Costa of manhattan beach. There might be some other tournament gams in there but we couldn’t find a complete schedule anywhere.
