The Los Alamitos Girls sports teams continued to pile up wins in basketball and soccer .

In girls basketball, the Lady Griffins, the county’s No. 8 team and No 1 in the Long Beach area, showed there was still a lot of distance between them and the No. 9 ranked Huntington Beach Oilers, laying a 48-25 thumping on the visting Oilers Thursday night. in their Surf League opener.

The Griffins showed great ball movement and a suffocating defense as they improved their overall record to 17-4. Sophomore guard Molly Clarke led the point parade with 13 points, and junior point guard Sydney gandy added 12 points and five assists. Sophomore Lataviah Miller collected 12 rebounds.

The team goes on the road for three tough matches next week — starting with a non-league match at No. 1 Mater Dei on Saturday and league matches next week at Edison and Corona Del Mar.

GIRLS SOCCER: Los Alamitos 1, Huntington Beach 0

The Los Alamitos Girls Soccer team remained undefeated and turned in its 17th shutout thanks to a 1-0 win over Huntington Beach on Thursday evening.

Jayden Newkirk scored the games only goal, piching in a rebound off Tabitha LaParl’s free kick midway through the second half.

The Griffins are now 18-0-3 on the season. Sophomores Reezyn Turk and Sophia Reddy again combined the shutout..
