15-year old Joshua Fendi, a sophomore at Los Alamitos High School, recently received the Athlete, Alumni, Ambassador (3A) Award from U.S. Figure Skating — a $500 scholarship award that recognizes skaters who have achieved figure skating excellence while actively volunteering in their community.
Fendi and his skating partner, his twin sister Jasmine, were the 2014 U.S. juvenile pairs champions and 2016 U.S. intermediate pairs champions. The two finished sixth in the novice event at the 2017 U.S. Championships.
The brother-sister pair has been making waves on the public radar for a few years now. The Press-Telegram featured them in a lengthy article three years ago.
Along with Jasmine, Joshua formed the first high school figure skating club on the west coast at Los Alamitos High School in California. He plans monthly skating outings and provides free lessons for club members to spark interest in the sport. An honors student, he helps middle schoolers through the Math Club, participates in Model United Nations and is a violinist in his high school orchestra. He also studies piano and is a member of the Building Literacy Club.
The twins began skating at six years old when their parents took them ice skating at Lake Arrowhead. They moved from the mountains to Cerritos a few years ago to be closer to high-level training at the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club.
