Ending two years of a somewhat rocky relationship, the incoming commander of the Joint Forces Training Base , Col. Nick Ducich, and Los Alamitos Mayor Warren Kusumoto signed a Memo of Understanding to officially allow the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular to take place this year.
For over 70 years the Base and the City had a very cordial relationship — originally under the Navy and then under the California National Guard since the late 1970’s. But overthe last three years, some bizarre and strained decisions by the State Guard Adjutant General, choked the cooperation which had produced the Race on the Base and the 4th of July Spectacular. That adjutant is no longer on the scene, setting the stage for a resumption of good relations between the Base and the City. The complete story is in the OC Breeze.
