Mauricio Ingrassia was one of the first standouts in Los Alamitos prestigious boys soccer history. He played three years of Varsity soccer and then as an a assistant coach helped the Griffins to a CIF title in 1991.
He played his college soccer first at San Diego State, and then in 1993 played at Cal State Fullerton and helped that team reach the NCAA Final Four.
He was the head coach of the Griffin boys soccer program until he left to become head coach for the Long Beach City College women’s program. In seven years at City, he led the Vikings to five state titles, the most by any coach in California history (1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003). His teams finished No. 1 in the nation in each of his last two seasons, while winning the last four state titles. Overall, Ingrassia went 184-24-8 (.870), which ended on a 55-game unbeaten streak which began in October, 2001. From 2000 to 2003 the Vikings went an astounding 95-3-0 (.969), starting with a 25-2-0 record in 2000, followed by records of 24-1-0, and 24-0-1. In 2003 they went 22-0-0.
Ingrassia was named the NSCAA/ADIDAS Junior College National Coach of the Year in 2003, and was named the conference’s top coach three times (1997, 2000, 2003) as well as California State Coach of the Year five times.
In 2004 he took over the reins at Long Beach State and led that school to its best seasons in its history. Under Ingrassia the 49ers have won back-to-back Big West regular season titles (the school’s first), three straight Big West Semifinal appearances (also a first) and the most wins in school history (set twice). In four years at the helm, the 49ers have gone 45-26-7.
