McGaugh Elementary School has honored Jacqueline Johnson, a long-time volunteer and school parent, as its 2020 Hero of the Heart in a presentation before the Los Alamitos Unified School Board.

“Giving of yourself to make a difference for those around you is the definition of the spirit of volunteerism,” said McGaugh Principal Roni Ellis, “and personifies this spirit of giving.”

Johnson, whose three children all have attended McGaugh, has volunteered as a room parent for 12 years while also serving on the boards of the fundraising group Project Seek and the PTA, as co-chair of Camp McGaugh, as chair of the Honorary Service Awards committee and as liaison with the Los Alamitos Education Foundation. She also volunteered at the book fair, Pageant of the Arts, and “ran picture day for years,” Ellis said.

Johnson “brings to our school community a great attitude, a wonderful smile and a heart filled with joy and love for the boys and girls of McGaugh,” Ellis said.
