OCBE withdraws request for ‘Critical Race Theory” forum at Rossmoor’s Rush Park

Citing highly escalated security costs, the Orange County Board of Education withdrew its request to hold one or more “educational forums” on Critical Race Theory in the community of Rossmoor, according to the OC Register and the Event News-Enterprise.

RCSD General Manager Joe Mendoza confirmed to the Event News-Enterprise the OCDE auditorium application had been withdrawn, and a citizen appeal of the event was now moot.

The OC Register reported the Orange County Sheriff’s Department estimated 69 deputies, two additional staffers and equipment, would be necessary to maintain security, Sgt. Ryan Anderson said Thursday. The cost would run to $96,000 and would be paid by the school board. Initially, the OCDDE board allocated $7,500 for the forums, including travel costs for some of the invited experts.
