Rossmoor School celebrated International Walk To School Day in style on Wednesday, October 10th!

Superintendent Dr. Kropp, Rossmor Principal Amy Belsha, staff members, teachers, parents, students and other special guests met at Rossmoor Park at 7:15am and then walked as a group for a few blocks to Rossmoor School at 7:30am. Parents who had to head to work were able to drop their students off for the walk.

Part of the Rossmoor parents walking crew included Firefighter Jeff Hubert with Orange County Fire Authority Engine 2 from Los Alamitos and Deputy Briceno who led the walk with his Patrol Car.
California Highway Patrol augmented the assistance with a motorcycle and a few police dogs and crews from CARE Ambulance joined the walk as well! A police helicopter briefly flew overhead as well.

The first National Walk to School Day was held in 1997.  The organizer’s multiple goals included encouraging children to get more exercise, and teaching parents and their children to appreciate things they don’t notice while driving—listening to the sounds of the neighborhood, seeing friends and neighbors and feeling connected with their community. Parents, children and friends can enjoy one another’s company without the usual distractions. Today more than 5,100 schools participate in the International Walk to School Day.
