Approximately 5,000 attend Race on the Base
By David Young – Though the threat of rain may have kept some away, more than 5,000 people turned out as spectators and participants for the 39th annual Los Alamitos Race on the Base, according to Los Alamitos Recreation Manager Emeline Noda. The race had 2,867 registered participants and approximately 2,000 spectators, she said. Due to anticipated rain, the crowds seemed a little bit lighter this year, yet overall, the race marked yet another successful year.
Jordon Nefulda appointed to Los Al Recreation Commission
The city of Los Alamitos interview two qualified candidates before deciding to select a local attorney to fill a vacant seat on the city’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Commission. In a special session Feb. 18, the city questioned both qualified candidates, Jeffrey Glaubensklee, a local accountant, mathematician and musician, and Jordan Nefulda, a local attorney.
‘Love Songs’ reveals announcement of Seal Beach Symphony
By David Young – It many ways, the evening was a symphony in the sounds of life. A large crowd jammed into the makeshift ballroom at Old Ranch Country Club Saturday to hear the first notes of what has become the Seal Beach Symphony, as they accompanied some of the world’s top vocalists and musicians. And, for the first time, the annual Valentine’s event entitled “Love Songs” was held in Seal Beach. For producer Chad Berlinghieri, after seven years, the music finally came home.
Anaheim YMCA pulls proposal to merge with Cypress Recreation
By David Young – Following public comments of citizens expressing concern over an unsolicited proposal from the Anaheim YMCA to merge with the city’s basketball and volleyball programs, the city has suddenly announced withdrawal of the proposal. The city’s announcement came in the agenda for their Feb. 24 council meeting. The city document noted the city’s Recreation and Community Services Department “includes an objective to identify opportunities to partner with neighboring cities, local schools, and non-profits to enhance services and efficiency.”
