Second swimming pool workshop draws more than 100 participants
More than 100 individuals attended the Saturday, Feb. 22, open-house style workshop on the proposed Seal Beach swimming pool project. An exact count wasn’t possible—not everyone who attended signed in—but the vast majority of Saturday’s participants appeared to support the proposed swimming pool project.
The workshop was originally scheduled to take place at the site of the swimming pool at McGaugh Elementary, the current community swimming pool.

Cole Keller, 8, spent an afternoon at The Sun office shadowing Associate Editor Charles M, Kelly on Friday, Feb. 21. Cole, a third-grader at J.H. McGaugh Elementary school in Seal Beach, was the winner of an auction item at the school’s annual Carnival in October. His prize was to tour the Sun newsroom, meet the people who produce the paper every week including Publisher Steven Remery. Cole also did the interviews for this week’s edition of “Sidewalk Talk.” Cole was an excellent note taker and proved he may have a promising future in journalism.
Students compete for scholarships in local Lions Club Student Speakers Contest
Kristin Dea, an 11th grade student at Grace Christian Academy, has taken the first step in securing scholarships for college by winning a local competition sponsored by the Seal Beach Lions Club. Ms. Dea’s speech was among four contestants in the annual California Lions Student Speakers Club Level Contest. Multiple District Four California Lions Clubs International is sponsoring the program to emphasize the importance of public speaking as a critically important life skill to young people everywhere.
Love Songs’ reveals announcement of Seal Beach Symphony
By David Young – It many ways, the evening was a symphony in the sounds of life. A large crowd jammed into the makeshift ballroom at Old Ranch Country Club Saturday to hear the first notes of what has become the Seal Beach Symphony, as they accompanied some of the world’s top vocalists and musicians. And, for the first time, the annual Valentine’s event entitled “Love Songs” was held in Seal Beach. For producer Chad Berlinghieri, after seven years, the music finally came home.
