Community Development director, Les Johnson, retires
Seal Beach Community Development Director Les Johnson is retiring from public service. City Manager Jill Ingram announced his retirement at the Monday, June 28, City Council meeting.
“That is a serious blow to, as far as I’m concerned, for the city,” said District One Councilman/Mayor Joe Kalmick during a phone interview the next day.
He said Johnson got along with everyone. “He showed a great deal of leadership in his department,” Kalmick said.
Johnson’s retirement caps an almost three-decade career in the private sector. (He apparently owned two businesses for about three years.) [more]
City, LAUSD discuss potential pool project
Officials from the City of Seal Beach and the Los Alamitos Unified School District officials are talking about McGaugh Elementary as a possible site for a long-proposed community swimming pool. “The City’s discussions with the LAUSD are still in the preliminary stages and we will be having further talks to determine if the McGaugh site is suitable for swimming pool improvements,” wrote… [more]
Seal Beach City Council introduces changes to flag rules
The City Council voted unanimously Monday, June 28, to introduce a new set of rules for flying flags in Seal Beach.
But first the council changed some of the proposals recommended by the Planning Commission, leading to a discussion of the number of flagpoles should be allowed and a discussion of the definition of flagpoles.
