Former Griffin Justine Wong-Orantes (LAHS ’13) returned to the starting line-up and helped the US Women’s National team improve its record to 7-1 at the FIVB World Cup tournament this week in Sapporo, Japan.
Wong-Orantes, who helped lead Los Al to CIF titles in 2010 and 2012, was re-inserted into the starting line-up halfway through the team’s loss to China, and then started and played the entire match in the Americans 3-0 sweep of the Domican Republic on Tuesday.
Team USA improves to 7-1 and remains in second place in the 12-team round robin World Cup. After two off days, the Americans return to the court on Friday to face Russia at 5 a.m. ET in Osaka. The U.S. concludes the tournament on Saturday against Cameroon and on Sunday versus Korea. The FIVB World Cup matches will be streamed live on FloVolleyball.tv.
