The Orange County Register’s Jonathan Winslow has put together a nice article for Boeing’s 100th anniversary, marking the company (and it’s merged entities) contributions to Orange County aerospace history.
Boeing’s roots in our area go back through Douglas (later McDonnell-Douglas) Aircraft which had its huge factory and presence at the Long Beach Airport (which in a way forced the Naval Reserve Air Base there to move to a new location in Los Alamitos in 1941), and North American (later North American Rockwell) which in the early 1960’s built the plant in Seal Beach for the assemblage of the second stage of the rocket which sent the Apollo astronauts to the moon; and McDonnell-Douglas’ off Bolsa Chica Road.
