From the City of Los Alamitos

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the City of Los Alamitos has been aggressively enacting programs and projects aimed at lessening the burden and impacts of the pandemic on our residents and businesses. In July 2020, the City of Los Alamitos distributed business grants as part of the City’s Emergency Relief Small Business Grant Program. Most recently, the City also enacted a number of different economic development programs, such as Los Al Bucks, to further support our business community and the local economy.

Due to the pandemic, many families have felt the impact of food insecurities and have turned to local non-profit organizations for aid. In an effort to build on the successes that our local non-profits have had in filling this need, staff proposed a grant program that the City Council approved in November 2021 that will assist non-profit organizations during the upcoming holiday season to support families and individuals in need. The Orange County Board of Supervisors provided the City of Los Alamitos $70,000 in funds through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) allotment, for meal gap support initiatives, in order to provide meals to those facing food insecurities in the Second District of Supervisor Katrina Foley due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The following qualifying non-profits serving the Los Alamitos community applied for the Non-Profit Grant Program and have each received $7,800 to support families in need to address food insecurities during the holidays:

  1. Casa Youth Shelter
  2. Food Finders
  3. Grateful Hearts
  4. Lestonnac Free Clinic
  5. Summer Harvest
  6. The Youth Center
  7. Transitions in Motherhood
  8. We Care of Los Alamitos

In addition, the remaining funds were equally distributed through $50 grocery gift cards to participants of each program: the local Adopt a Military Family Program (80 participants) and the City of Los Alamitos Senior Grocery Program (80 participants). The City of Los Alamitos is proud to support its residents, businesses, and local non-profits in a variety of ways on a year-round basis.
