Five local players for the United Water Polo Club were selected to participate at the 2019 U.S. Water Polo ODP National Championships, to be held in March in Riverside.
Selected for the Boys 16 Division are Andrew Lear, a sophomore at Los Alamitos High School. Playing in the Girls 14U bracket are Olivia Slavens and Madelyn Nollan (both students at McAuiffe Middle School), Joey Niz (Oak Middle School) and Isabel Validika (Westerly School). The players received invites after participating in regional tryouts held late last summer in Huntington Beach.
The Boys ODP Tournament will take place Mar. 1-3 while the Girls will play March 15-17. The opening ceremonies, championship game will be at the event’s primary venue, the Riverside Aquatics Complex at Riverside City College, but preliminary games will be played on Saturday and Sunday at various pools throughout the City of Riverside.
