ALUMNI: Fattal helps US Women Waterpolo to another tourney sweep; Wong-Orantes on Pan-Am Cup VB roster

    Griffin alum Rachel Fattal (oleft)came back to Los Al HS to share some of her gold medal experiences after she helped the US women water polo team win the 2016 Olympics.

    Former Los Alamitos water polo star Rachel Fattal (LAHS ’11) scored four goals to lead the United States women’s national water polo team to a 10-4 win over Italy, on the opening day of the Dutch Trophy in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Wednesday.

    Fattal scored two more goals when the US women downed Hungary 17-9, but went scoreless in an 18-8 win over host Netherlands, in the tourney finale.

    VOLLEYBALL

    Fattal’s former Los Al volleyball teammate, Justine Wong-Orantes (LAHS ’13) was named to the final roster for the US National Womens volleball team for the Pan-American Cup currently being played in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  She plays libero.

    So far Team USA has defeated Trinidad and Tobago and Puerto Rico and lost a five set match to Cuba, but still advanced to the knock-out brackets where they downed Columbia to advance to the semi-finals.

    They will play the winner of the Dominican Republic-Puerto Rico match.  Canada and Brazil have already advance to the semifinals as the top two pool finishers among the three four-team pools. All matches can be watched live on flovolleyball.tv in the United States.
