At Los Alamitos High, Rossmoor native Austin Ringheim was a late bloomer onto the water polo scene, one of those projects that Dave Carlson specialized in developing.
After a very strong high school career Ringheim spent a couple of years at Golden West College, leading them to a state title, and then transferred to Whittier where he helped lead the Poets to their first-ever Division III playoff appearance, and earned All-Conference honors in the process.
Ringheim then got into the coaching side, and after a couple years as an assistant, including a year with Carlson, and a stint at Austin University, Ringheim has taken over the reins of the MIT water polo program and he has the task of turning the smarts into wins and losses. He inherits a team that has been on an upward track for a couple years and Swimming World has an extensive interview with him.
