ALAMITOS BAY: New 600-unit mixed used complex may replace old Whole Foods, 5 Guys center at PCH by Seal Beach border

The Long Beach Planning Commission will be deciding to continue its march to mixed on the Seal Beach boundary when it considers a proposal to approve Onni Marina Shores, a proposed 600-unit mixed use project on the site of the Marine Shores retail complex, 6500 Pacific Coast Highway, during its Thursday, July 6, meeting. The proposed development would be next door to the increasingly popular 2nd & PCH shopping center and across from Alamitos Bay.

The center is currently home to several tenants, including Five Guys Burger & Fries, Chronic Tacos, Petco, Phenix Salon and Ameritrade. But the Onni Group wants to replace the underperforming center and build two five-story buildings with 600 total apartments of varying size, with 4,000 square feet of ground-level restaurant space, a pedestrian paseo between the two buildings, and four distinct outdoor courtyards on the third floor of each building, which would be connected by a footbridge.

While Long Beach is required by the state to build 26,502 new housing units over the next eight years, none of the apartments in the project will be reserved for affordable housing. Complete story in the Press-Telegram.
