The Los Alamitos Girls soccer team completed an unbeaten regular season with a 3-0 win over rival Edison Wednesday afternoon on the Chargers field.
The win gave the Griffins a 21-0-5 overall record in the regular season and their first Surf League Championship with a 4-0-2 mark. [For the confused out there, the old team 6-team Sunset League was joined by Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach to form the 8-team Sunset Conference — which is composed broken into two four-team leagues — the Surf (made up of the top four teams from previous year) and the Wave (the bottom four teams). Only two teams from a four-team league automatically qualify for the CIF playoffs, but in the Surf circuit, probably all four will have the mandatory .500 record to earn a
Colby Barnett added a goal in the 13th minute and LaParl scored again in the 27th to make it 3-0 going into the half, a score which stood through the final whistle.
Los Al now awaits the CIF playoffs, where they will probably draw the No. 2 seed, behind defending CIF defending champion J. Serra. The Lions (14-0-3 overall) clinched the Trinity title yesterday with a tie against rival Santa Margarita.

GIRLS BB: Los Alamitos 62, Edison, 30
The Los Alamitos Griffins Girls Basketball team completed their regular season with a comfortable 62-30 win over the Edison Chargers on the losers’ floor.
The Lady Griffins finished with an overall record of 20-8 and a Surf League mark of 4-2 mark. The latter gave them second place in the Surf League, behind Huntington Beach (5-1) which downed Corona Del Mar 50-21 yesterday.
CIF brackets will be posted on Sunday, Feb 3 at noon. The Girls contests are scheduled for Feb 5, 7, 9, 13, 15 with the championship games all slated for Feb. 23.
