The Los Alamitos Girls soccer team completed an unbeaten regular season with a 3-0 win over rival Edison Wednesday afternoon on the Chargers field.

The win gave the Griffins a 21-0-5 overall record in the regular season and their first Surf League Championship with a 4-0-2 mark. [For the confused out there, the old team 6-team Sunset League was joined by Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach to form the 8-team Sunset Conference — which is composed broken into two four-team leagues — the Surf (made up of the top four teams from previous year) and the Wave (the bottom four teams). Only two teams from a four-team league automatically qualify for the CIF playoffs, but in the Surf circuit, probably all four will have the mandatory .500 record to earn a wild card spot.

Colby Barnett added a goal in the 13th minute and LaParl scored again in the 27th to make it 3-0 going into the half, a score which stood through the final whistle.

Tabitha LaParl scored her 25th and 26th goal of the season in yesterday’s Los Al win over Edison. That gives her 49 for her two-year career, three behind all-time leader Liz Willemese.

LaParl’s goal was her 26th of the season, best in Orange County. It also gave her 49 for her career in not even two complete seasons, just three behind all-time leader Liz Willemse (LAHS ’91) who had 52 in her four year career at Griffin-ville. Sophia (Bo) Medina (LAHS ’06) is in second place with 51. [Link to Griffin season stats]

Los Al now awaits the CIF playoffs, where they will probably draw the No. 2 seed, behind defending CIF defending champion J. Serra. The Lions (14-0-3 overall) clinched the Trinity title yesterday with a tie against rival Santa Margarita.

The current CIF polls show JSerra at the top, followed by Los Al, Upland and Aliso Niguel. The brackets will be announced Saturday morning (Feb. 2) at 11am. The Griffins should draw a bye in Monday’s first round and open their playoff activity at home on Wednesday. Games are scheduled for Feb. 4, 6, 8, 12, 16 and the championships on the weekend of the 22-23.
