The Los Alamitos Girls Vollevball team dropped its second straight Surf League match, falling to Huntington Beach 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 26-24) on the victors court.
The loss drops the Griffins to 12-3 overall and 0-2 in Surf league play. They return to the court Thursday against Edison.
Over the weekend the Griffins had a good showing at the annual Durango Volleyball Classic in Las Vegas, going 5-2 over the two-day tourney, the top VB tournament in the country. The Griffins finished second in their opening round pool, falling only to eventual finalist Mercy (Kentucky). On Saturday morning, they dropped their qualifier, falling 2-0 to Archbishop Mitty of San Jose and were sent to the Competition Round. But the ladies rallied to win three straight and claim that bracket’s championship. Their Saturday wins were over Dr. Phillips (19-25, 25-20, 25-16), Bonneville (25-22, 25-22) and St. Francis of Mountain view (25-14, 22-25) 26-24)
GIRLS GOLF: Griffins fall to Edison, rally to defeat Laguna
The Los Al Lady Griffins downed Laguna Beach 198-266 Tuesday at Old Ranch Country Club. Senior Maddy Murr was the medalist with an even par 36.
The win improved the team’s season record to 12-1. Last Thursday, the Griffins dropped their first match of the season, falling 194-189 to Edison
Then over the weekend, the ladies made the most out of trip to San Clemente, finishing in third place out of 21 teams at the Rainbow Sandals Lady Triton Invitational shooting a team total 413.
