Los Alamitos improved its Conference record to 3-1 (6-10 overall) and returns to the court Friday night against a hot Newport Harbor squad which brings a 20-1 record into the fray. It will be the first game of Wave League play. Under the format adapted this year for all sports except football, the Sunset League is now a Conference with two leagues. The Wave league is composed of the four best teams from the previous year. Each team will play three home and home matches against League opponents. Each team will also play the four teams in Surf League (the bottom four from the previous year) one time. The top two teams from each league automatically qualify for the CIF playoffs, but the two other Surf League teams should earn a
CHEERLEADING: CIF to hold first sanctioned Cheeleading competition this Saturday .
The CIF-Southern Section will hold its first sanctioned Cheerleading competition this Saturday at Colony High in Ontario. and Los Alamitos teams will be among the favorites.
National competitions have been held for years, but the event at Colony will be the first Southern Section-sanctioned championship competition. The CIF-SS championships will have 11 divisions, four of which are coed divisions. Teams with two or more males are in one of the four coed divisions; teams with one or no males are in one of the other seven divisions. The event begins at 9 a.m. with the final routines scheduled for 4 p.m.
Teams are placed in divisions by skill level. The more difficult the skills a team does or even attempts, the higher the division for that team.
Two Orange County teams are in the top division, Division 1AA – Mater Dei and Newport Harbor. Edison, Los Alamitos and Villa Park are in Division 1A.
