Griffin Sports: Los Alamitos baseball overpowers Marina in Sunset Conference crossover game

The Los Al Griffins baseball team jumped out to a 9-0 lead and held on for a 9-3 win over Marina in a Sunset Conference crossover game Wednesday afternoon.  LMU-bound Evan Leibl was two for three with two RBIs.  Long Beach State bound pitcher Zach Locke picked up the win, and left the game in the 5th with a 9-0 lead.   The LA Times has the complete story.

SOFTBALL:  Griffins “terrific” as they move to top of softball rankings

Los Alamitos will take a record of 10-0 into their Sunset Surf League opener against Marina on Tuesday, March 17. They’ve done it with quality pitching and scary good power and speed at the plate.  Junior Sophia Nugent is batting .520 with five home runs and 10 RBIs, sophomore Diamond Sefe is at .517 with four home runs and 13 RBIs, senior Jamie Sellers is batting .500 with three home runs and 11 RBIs, senior Carly Robbins is batting .400 with two home runs and nine RBIs, junior Emma Sellers has a .370 average with a home run and seven RBIs, senior Ali Belarde is batting .344 with four stolen bases and freshman Giselle Alvarez has four home runs and 10 RBIs to go along with a .333 average.   As a team, the Griffins are batting .384 with 19 home runs and 18 stolen base.  The Register and Press-telegram have the story.
