GRIFFIN SPORTS: Track downs Newport Harbor on Sr. Day, has 8 qualify for Arcadia Individuals

TRACK AND FIELD

The Los Al track team celebrated Senior Day with a sweep over Newport Harbor on Tuesday, winning in all three levels.  The 35 seniors were honored with a presentation.

The Griffins return to action this weekend at the 54th Annual Arcadia Invitational, presented by NIKE.  Four relay teams earned invites as did eight individuals.  Click the link for the entire heat sheets.

WOMEN

MEN
  • 4x 100 Boys relay
  • Freshman Devin Bragg in the 100-meter sprint.
  • Lincoln Marschall (Senior) – Mens 300-meter Hurdles
  • David Brok (senior) – Men’s Pole Vault
  • Carson Fox  (Sophomore) – 100-meter ambulatory, Mixed shot put (seated)

The squad wraps up its regular season next weekend with the Mt. SAC Relays, then will host the Surf League Prelims and Championships on April 26 and 29th.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

The Los Al Boys VB team rallied from a tough loss to Huntington Beach last Friday to come away with two big wins this week.

Last Friday, Los Al took a 2-0 lead but lost three straight to fall to the Oilers.  Things didn’t look good on this past Tuesday when they dropped the first two sets to powerful No 3 ranked Newport Harbor, but the No. 11 Griffins rallied to sweep the final three sets to get a big cross-conference win Tuesday evening.  Scores were 18-25, 23-25, 26-24, 27-25, 15-10.

The comeback marked Los Al’s 20th win of the season against 8 losses.  They continued their good play on Thursday with a 3-2 win over Edison.  That improved their Wave league record to 4-0.  They’ll finish out their regular season next week against Fountain Valley and Marina.

SOFTBALL

The Los Al Softball squad continued their hot play, downing the Edison Chargers 10-2 on Tuesday and then defeating Marina 10-2 on Thursday.  The Griffins who are now 19-4, get two chances or revenge against Surf League rival Huntington Beach, who handed them their only league loss a few weeks ago.  Los Al plays the Oilers on Monday, April 11, then take a 9-day break during the extended spring break (two different weeks off for different districts)  before playing the Oilers again on Wednesday, April 20.  They’ll complete their regular season on Friday, April 22 against Edison and on Tuesday, April 26 against Marina.

On Wednesday morning, the softball ladies took a break and visited Lee School as part of the “Girls In Sport” program there.

BASEBALL

The Boys Baseball team scored in the sixth inning to defeat Torrance 3-2 in a non-league match on Tuesday.  Junior pitcher Cole Tryba struck out 11.   The varsity takes on La Sierra on Friday.  Los Al is now 11-6-2 overall.

BOYS TENNIS

The Los Al Boys Tennis team dropped a 12-6 match on Wednesday to visiting Corona del Mar High School. CDM, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, clinched at least a share of the Surf League title. Corona del Mar is , and Los Alamitos (2-2 in Surf League and 7-4-1 overall) is ranked No. 2 in Division 2.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

The Los Al girls finished off league play with a sweep of Fountain Valley.  Their record is now 5-3.  JVs finished off a perfect 10-0 season.  The Varsity now prepares for league Pairs Finals competition on Monday, April 11.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Christian Bermudez, a senior forward on the Los Alamitos Boys basketball Team, was named to the OC Register’s All-Orange County Fifth team.
