The Los Alamitos Girls volleyball team suffered their second loss of the season, dropping a five-set thriller to Corona Del Mar (19-25, 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 15-12). The match, played at Los Alamitos, was the first of six Surf League matches. The LA Times/Daily Pilot has the full story
Senior outside hitter Abby Karich finished with 23 kills to lead Los Alamitos. Allie Livingston had 40 assists, and Riley Beyma and Jacinda Ramirez each had 19 digs.
Los Al returns to action next Tuesday with a league match at Huntington Beach.
A couple notes – the Times story lists the Griffins record as 12-5, but it’s officially 7-2. The other matches were part of a summer tournament in Hawaii which were played before the official CIF season start date of August 17.
Also (for some of you old-timers), under the re-bracketing adopted last year, the old Sunset League was expanded to eight schools and renamed the Sunset Conference. The top four teams from the previous season compete in the Surf League and the bottom four teams play in the Wave League.
