The Los Alamitos Rotary Club has continued a tradition of Honoring Vocational Education Students at the Los Alamitos High School (LAHS). “The betterment of our youth is a focus for our Rotary Club” noted Robert Dominquez, president.

This month they recognized Alexander Cannizzaro from the AP Computer Science program, and Elizabeth Schmidt from the Tech. Theatre program. Nominated by their instructors, they were recognized at a club meeting and their parents were in attendance. In addition to a Certificate of Recognition, the honor includes a $200 donation which they can apply to their future endeavors. He was honored as the December student of the month.

Cannizzaro was hailed for his efforts in Computer Science and often becomes the “go-to person” from his fellow students when questions arise.
Ms. Schmidt, “Lizzy” has natural talents in managing theatrical programs. She recently took charge when her instructor became ill. She was recognized as the January student of the month.

In addition to these monthly recognitions, Rotary nominates two junior year students for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) which is conducted in the Spring.

“We also have a major scholarship award, named in honor of a former club member, which is presented during grad awards just prior to graduation,” Dominguez added.

The Los Alamitos Rotary Club meets on the first and third Tuesdays each month, at noon, at the “On The Greens” restaurant and the US Navy Golf Course in Cypress. Those who may be interested in this International Service Organization are invited to join at the twice-a-month meetings.
