Former Los Al Griffin standout and Seal Beach native Peter Kropf passed away suddenly on July 16th, 2017 at the age of 47.

His obituary which was recently posted in the Seal Beach Sun. stated that “a native son of Seal Beach, Peter embraced life with a passionate, free spirit. He was born March 12th, 1970 in San Francisco, CA, and most recently resided in Orange, CA.”

He was a proud Griffin, having graduated from Los Alamitos High School in 1988.  At Los Al, Peter was a standout player for the Griffins football team at the position of offensive tackle, proudly wearing the number 68.  He was a key part of the team that carried on the success of the J.T. Snow led teams and firmly established the success of Los Al football during the John Barnes era.

In November 1986, the LA Times cited Kropf’s efforts along with the rest of the line.  “The offensive line of center Steve Wood, guards Chris Rose and Chris Spoden and tackles Matt Fosdick and Peter Kropf has helped [Tom] Williamson develop into one of Orange County’s better quarterbacks, and Snow’s influence last year helped.”

In his senior year Kropf blocked for QB Todd Gragnano and earned second team all_Empire league honors.

As a child growing up in Seal Beach, Peter attended both Zoeter and McGaugh Elementary Schools, and spent time with friends playing in Gum Grove Park, riding his bike to get candy at West Beach Liquor and competing in junior lifeguards during the summer.

A drop-in celebration of Peter’s life will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at the home of Kevin and Kimberly Kropf located at 283 College Park Dr., in Seal Beach.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Peter’s name to the Long Beach Rescue Mission which is dedicated to helping those less fortunate find a hot meal and a warm bed.  As Peter would have wanted, his ashes will be spread in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Catalina Island where he and his family have many treasured memories.
