Kennedy Wesley, a 16-year old sophomore from Rossmoor who plays soccer for Valley Christian, was named as The Gatorade U.S. High School Player of the Year.
The award was given to her by US soccer great Abby Wambach.

Wesley, who was also the Gatorade California Girls Soccer Player of the Year, led Valley Christian to a 25-3-3 record and helped the Crusaders win their first CIF Southern Section championship since 2007.  She had 22 goals and nine assists during the season.

Here is the TopDrawer soccer story on the award.   And here is the Press-Telegram effort. And here is the story from USA Today.

Wesley has been spending much of her summer training and playing with the U.S. Soccer Under-17 Women’s National Team which fell to China 5-4 on a last minute goal in the championship game.

This is nothing new for her since she was on the team last year during the U-17 Women’s World Cup and is the captain of this year’s team.  .
