Social media has its downsides but it also has tremendous upsides in times of need.   One of those using it for the latter was Jenifer Levy who graduated from Paradise High School in 1995 but now lives in Rossmoor.

Hearing about the terrible fires that devastated her hometown, and many of her old high school friends who still lived there, she posted about her hometown’s tragedy on Facebook, Instagram and other social media and said she was going to take supplies up there.  Neighbors, PTA cohorts and gym buddies spread the word and donations began arriving at her house, and at Los Alamitos High.  Parents at Weaver School, where her children attend, also there got into the act, collecting in-demand items such as diapers, strollers and blankets.

On Wednesday, Nov. 14, Levy pulled a U-Haul trailer stuffed with sleeping bags, pet food, clothing and toys 500 miles to Chico. Her husband, Eric Levy, will meet her there Saturday, Nov. 17, with another truckload.

Local reporter, Susan Goulding has the full story in Friday’s OC Register.
