Although she never had much interest in prosthetic limbs before, Faith Lennox was eager to slip on her 3-D printed plastic robohand and road-test it.
Shortly after the ground-breaking prosthetic came off the printer on Tuesday the seven-year-old put it on and rushed outside to ride her bicycle.
Later, Faith showed off the hand to others, flexing its pink and blue fingers as she gripped her small, stuffed “Nemo” toy.
The prosthetic was constructed overnight at the Build It Workspace studio in Los Alamitos, California.
It represents a breakthrough in small, lightweight hands that are economical and easy for children to use.
