When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Once again proving that old adage the Los Al Griffins softball team won their last two Surf League games to end up tied atop the league standings with Edison.
Last Friday, the Griffins played an unusual league double header against Edison (caused by a shortage of umpires). The Griffins dropped the first game, then rallied to down the Chargers in the nightcap. (story here in the OC Register.)
Then on Tuesday, Ari Belarde’s grand slam led the Griffins to a win over Marina to secure their share of the Surf league championship.
The CIF playoffs will start next week.
Los Alamitos softball beats Marina to earn share of Surf League title
Los Alamitos and Marina closed the Surf League softball season Tuesday with the type of unforgiving duel that defined arguably the most competitive race in Orange County. The Griffins took advantage of the slightest of openings at the pivotal moment and raced to a share of the league title.
