Tanya Doby was appointed to the Los Alamitos City Council, to fulfill the term of former Council Member Warren Kusumoto who resigned in December after his employer transferred him out of state.
The Council voted to appoint a member to fill the vacancy until the next General Municipal Election on November 3, 2020. Per the Council’s direction, the City Clerk’s Office coordinated an open recruitment from December 21 through January 8. City Council interviewed two applicants, Tanya Doby and Alex Duran, on January 14, 2020 at a Special meeting open to the public.
Council unanimously voted to appoint Tanya Doby. Mrs. Doby was sworn in the same evening by City Clerk Quintanar and participated in the remaining agenda items including the Fiscal Sustainability Program Update.
Mrs. Doby has a Bachelor of Arts from California State University Long Beach, in Speech Communication. She currently owns and operates an apparel brokerage, The Anchored Rose Print Shop, and provides Human Resources (HR) Consulting. She has over 15 years of Human Resource experience. She serves in several volunteer capacities at the elementary school and school district level. She also served for three years on the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Commission as the Chair and as a Commissioner before being appointed to the Council.
Mrs. Doby has been a resident of Los Alamitos for the past six years. With her husband,
Josiah, she is raising her two children, Justus (10) and Sage (7), who both attend school
at the local elementary.
When asked why she wanted to be a Council Member she stated she “firmly believes in the culture and wonder that is this small town and is excited to do her part to help the community grow and thrive”.
