Susan Egan, Seal Beach native, Los Al grad, produces Disney special at Hollywood Bowl (Event-News-Enterprise)
A Seal Beach native who became a Broadway headliner and a beloved member of the Disney family remembers her days in Mayberry by the Sea as she prepares for a major event at the Hollywood Bowl Aug. 4 and 5. Susan Egan Hartmann grew up in Seal Beach and graduated from Los Al High School before heading off to star under the bright lights of Broadway. In fact, she and her partner Adam J. Levy, another Orange County native, now operate their entertainment company in Nashville called “10th and Main,” which is the [current] address of the Orange County School for the Arts. She and Levy were both members of OCHSA’s first graduating class of the academy which began as part of Los Alamitos High in Fall of 1987. [more]

Boaters missing new channel for Huntington Harbour are entering restricted naval weapons station (Press-Telegram)
Some boaters are still using an old route between Huntington Harbour and the ocean following the opening in 2021 of a new channel to make it safer for vessels to transit through the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. And the wayward boaters are drawing security responses. Just two weeks ago, one boater found himself entering what is now a restricted area of Anaheim Bay by motoring down the center of the bay instead of hugging the right side, which is part of the new channel that directs civilians far from Navy operations and funnels them under the bridge at Pacific Coast Highway toward Huntington Harbour. While he couldn’t give details on the Navy’s response, it was swift, said Gregg Smith, spokesman for the base.

Seal Beach lottery ticket thieves arrested (KCAL 9)
Two men were arrested for attempting to steal a pile of scratch-off lottery tickets from a Seal Beach liquor store July 18.
Seal Beach Police responded around 3 a.m. to West Beach Liquor on Pacific Coast Highway to a report of a burglary and found two men speeding off in their vehicle.

HS Football: Press-Telegram area’s top senior recruits; Los Al has seven of them
In one of its pre-season football stories, the Press-Telegram listed local athletes who are receiving recruiting interest from top programs across the country. The recruits are from a 14-mile radius in the Bellflower, Los Alamitos, Long Beach and Downey area.
St. John Bosco, the defending national champions, tops the area with 14 seniors recognized by 247Sports as top recruits in California’s class of 2024, while Los Alamitos was No. 2 with seven top senior recruits. Millikan is No. 3 with five recruits. Long Beach Poly is No. 4 with four recruits. Warren is No. 5 with three recruits, and Downey landed No. 6 with one recruit.
