Ethhan Kolsky and Naara Shin led the post-season parade of honors for the Los Alamitos Griffins Boys tennis team, which ended the season as the Sunset League Champion, ranked No. 2 in the OC, and advanced to the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinals.

The pair led a total of eight players off the  earned post-season honors on the Long Beach Press-Telegram 2017 Tennis Dream Team.

Making it on the first squad were Griffin singles players Naara Shin and Sunset League Singles Champion Ethan Kolsky.  Also making it on the first squad was the doubles tandem of  Andrew Wakamoto and Spencer Sween.

Earning second team honors were the Griffins’ other two doubles groups — Colter Smith and Victor Wicks, and Nick Vogt and Adrian Pedroza.

Kolsky and Shin also earned honors on the OC Register’s All-County tennis team.  Of Kolsky the Reg’s Kenny Connolly wrote:

Over the past four seasons, few players have come as far in their development as Kolsky, who started out as a doubles player and wound up serving as Los Alamitos’ No. 1 singles player this season…. He advanced to the round of 16 at the Ojai Tournament, falling to Newport Harbor’s Max McKennon. Kolsky later topped McKennon in the Sunset League singles championship match.

And of Shin:

Naara ShinThe Griffins senior proved to be one of the most versatile players in the area, thriving at both singles and doubles play. At the Ojai Tournament, Shin and partner Nicklaus Vogt advanced to the round of 16. Los Al’s No. 2 singles player also advanced to the round of 16 at CIF Individual Championships, one of only six area players to make such a run.
