The Los Alamitos Youth Baseball PONY 12-year old all-stars thumped Utah 20-3 on Thursday, then got thumped themselves, 10-0, by a team from Hilo, Hawaii and will face Arizona today at 10am to try to qualify for a return match against Hawaii in the Lower Bracket final of the Bronco Western Zone Championships which are being played in Whittier this weekend. The winner of the latter match-up would advance to the Zone Championship game tomorrow against either Escondido or the winner of the Whittier,-Seaside match.
The Los Al-Arizona game is scheduled to be webcast but the feed was down as of 8:30 this morning.
Youth baseball: Hits and misses for Hilo PONY
There is nothing quite like a summer trip with family. Galvanizing right before coach Gayne Kobayashi’s eyes, Quinn Waiki helped pace Hilo’s 15-hit attack with a double and two singles Friday, and Clemson Julian and four relievers combined on a six-hit shutout as the Hilo Bronco All-Stars belted Los Alamitos, Calif., 10-0, remaining undefeated at the PONY West Zone baseball tournament in Whittier, Calif.
MUSTANGS
In Mustang all-star Western Zone play, which is happening at the LAYB Fields, the host LAYB all-stars have won their first two games to earn a spot in tonight’s upper bracket final. So far the locals defeated Cache Valley, Utah 13-8 and then outlasted East Long Beach 8-7. East LB and Cache Valley play this morning with the winner earning a rematch with Los Al at 3pm.
The games are scheduled to be live streamed.
