JFTB studies using 99 acres of solar panels for emergency power use carbon footprint reduction

The California National Guard has completed an environmental impact study of the possible impacts of installing 99 acres of solar panels at the Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos that would reduce the base’s carbon footprint while also providing a viable energy source in an emergency situation.

The project, as reported in the OC Breeze in late July, is part of the U.S. Army’s implementation of its Energy, Security and Sustainment (ES2) Strategy to provide secure sources of energy at strategically located installations. JFTB is the only major military installation in the Los Angeles basin capable of supporting large-scale emergency-response operations. The project will also enhance power reliability of the local grid during normal operations.

The report is available for review in many local libraries and open to public comment through August 24.  The libararies are:

  • Los Alamitos – Rossmoor Library
  • Mary Wilson Library (Seal Beach)
  • La Palma Branch Library
  • Hawaiian Gardens Library
  • Billie Jean King Main Library (Long Beach)
  • Los Altos Neighborhood Library (Long Beach)
  • Tibor Rubin Library (Garden Grove)
  • Garden Grove Main Library
