As you know, our current deputy superintendent who oversees Business Services, Mrs. Patricia Meyer, is retiring Aug. 15.
After an extensive and highly competitive search, it gives me great pleasure to announce that Dr. Nancy Nien has been selected to join the Los Al Team as the new assistant superintendent of Business Services, effective Aug. 16.
She comes to us with a wealth of experience and education, and her references are exceptional.
Dr. Nien is currently the assistant superintendent of business at Downey Unified School District, where she manages a $250 million budget and a $248 million bond program.
Prior to this, she served in the same capacity at Centralia Elementary School District and Duarte Unified School District. She has a B.A. in Political Science from U.C. Berkeley, an Ed.M. in Educational Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University, a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Education and Economics from Columbia University, and a School Business Management Certificate from University of Southern California.
During the interview process, Dr. Nien said, “Los Al is a great place to live, work, and go to school” and said that she was almost there. Well now she is! She lives in Rossmoor with her husband and two daughters, both of whom attend our schools. Dr. Nien said that getting this position is like “coming home” and that she is thrilled to be able to do the work she loves for the district community in which she lives.
Although she does not officially start with Los Alamitos Unified until Aug. 16, she is already meeting with people to ensure a smooth transition. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Nancy Nien to the Los Al Family!
