GRIFFIN SPORTS: Boys soccer falls to CDM in OT

Corona Del Mar scored a golden goal early in overtime to hand the Los Alamitos Griffins Boys soccer team a tough 3-2 loss Wednesday night in a heavy rain on the Griffins turf field.

The Griffins had gone up 2-0 in the first half on goals by Michael Simpson and Derek Goodman. Simpson’s goal came on a rebound after a keeper block off a set pass across the front of the goal. Louis Arrellano assisted on Goodman’s goal.

But the Sea Kings rallied to tie it up at halftime. After a scoreless second half, the game went to the sudden death overtime which did not end well for the Griffins. Corona del Mar is now 2-0 in Surf League play. Los Alamitos is 1-1,

Rain pushed all three boys’ soccer games to the field turf stadium. The JVs ended in a 1-1 tie, with Corona’s goal coming after keeper Danny Millsaps made a couple of great stops before the Sea Kings putting it away. Adrian Vera’s second half goal put Los Al up 1-0.

The Frosh-Soph also ended in a draw, with the baby Griffins scoring twice in the last five minutes to earn a 3-3 tie. Los Al goals were scored by
Nicholas Granda (Santiago Corea assist),
Carson Ingalls (rebound off a Noah Walker shot off the crossbar), and Josh Lee hitting the back of the nets in the closing seconds of stoppage time.

Boys BB: CDM 62, Los Alamitos 51

The Corona del Mar High boys’ basketball team beat visiting Los Alamitos 62-51 in Wednesday’s Surf League game, despite a 31 point effor\t from sophmore Kevin Kent. Junior Dave Olcomendy added 16 points.

Los Alamitos fell to 7-13 and 0-3 in the league. They return to action on Friday at Edison and a Monday morning affair against Rolling Hills at Orange Lutheran Hoopfest. .
