VOLLEYBALL:  Los Al represented at both Boys and Girls County All-Star matches

The OC All-Star Volleyball Matches returned after a Covid-inspired hiatus, with some good matches last Thursday at Newport Harbor High.  Liv Panzica represented the Griffin Girls, and Noah Roberts and Beck Weber made the the Griffin Boys proud.  Panzica will play next year at Boise State, while Roberts and Weber head to USC and UC Irvine, respectively.

And Los Al sophomore outside hitter Kaia Herweg, a 5-10 Sophomore, who plays for Mizuno Long Beach 16 Rockstar helped lead her team to a Premier Volleyball League championship, earning her honorable mention on Volleyball Magazine Dream team of the Week.  Attacking from the left side, herweg hit .250 for the two-day event.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING: Moore signs with Louisville

Griffin wide receiver and track start DeAndre Moore Jr. has verbally committed to play football in Fall 2023 for the Louisville Cardinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Moore, who was the starting leg on the griffins 4×100 relay team which finished in fifth place at last week’s state championships (see above), is a 6’0, 185-pound wide receiver for the Griffins and is ranked the 17th-overall prospect in ESPN’s Top 300 and the number 2 WR on their site. On 247sports, he’s ranked as 55th prospect overall nationally and number 4 WR per their composite rankings.  It was often thought Moore would join his Griffin teammates Malachi Nelson and Makai Lemon at USC.  Like them, Moore had originally committed to Oklahoma but decommitted when Riley left to take the job at USC.
