The Los Al girls soccer team, who couldn’t finish its chances in a tough CIF Southern Section Playoffs semi-final overtime loss last week, made sure it finished its opportunities in the CIF State SoCal Playoffs and pounded Cleveland of Reseda 7-1 on Tuesday evening at Los Al.

The win sets the Griffins up with a rematch against Temecula Valley on Thursday in Temecula.  It was Temecula which ended the Griffins Southern Section aspirations last week with a tough 1-0 overtime win at Los Al.  Temecula had also defeated Los Al in the championship game of the Best in the West tournament in mid December.

Junior Kaylee Noble scored a hat trick (three goals) for the Griffins in the win over Cleveland of the LA City section.  Junior Marissa Salazar added two.  Senior midfielder Mimi Abusham notched three assists while soph Leilani Ngo-Harris recorded two assists.   Junior wing Sanaa Guyness added a goal.

Los Al, the No. 4 seed in the SoCal Regionals, improved its record to 19-5-5 while Temecula Valley, the CIF Southern section champ, is now 21-1-1.  The Golden Bears drew a bye in the first round.

In other state SoCal Regional  matches, two San Diego Section teams bested Southern section squads.  Point Loma, the No. 7 seed, upset No. 2 Santiago of Riverside 1-0, while San Marcos upset Villa Park by the same score.

The SoCal Regional Championship will be played Saturday on the higher seed’s home field.
