The Los Al Girls softball team jumpstarted their 2022 season by winning a pair of shutouts on Saturday, as part of the Cypress Tournament.
Los Al, ranked No 3 by the OC Register’s pre-season preview, downed El Dorado 8-0 in a morning affair, then followed that up with a 5-0 win over Granada Hills Charter in the afternoon.
The two wins earned the Griffins a trip down Ball Road and a date with tournament host Cypress High in a tourney semi-final at 10am. The winner would play the survivor of the Villa Park-Kennedy match in the championship game at 2pm.
Senior Sidney Saldana (right) pitched the win over El Dorado. Saldana is a right-hander who has committed to Utah State. She got hitting help with home runs by Diamond Sefe (Texas tech commit) and Taylor Johnson (University of San Diego).
In the afternoon game, senior Anjali Maline shut out Granada Hills. Karina Nuez contributed a triple.
