GRIFFIN SPORTS: Water Polo falls to Foothill, B-ballers fall to Covina & Orangewood

It was not a good day for Griffin sports as three Los Al teams fell in non-league action. 

GIRLS WP:  Foothill 13, Los Al 7

The No. 9 ranked Los Al Girls Water Polo team fell to No. 3 ranked Foothill 13-7.   Katie Dvonch, who has committed to play at Brown University next year, scored five goals, but it was not enough.

The girls water polo varsity returns to action on Friday against Wilson. 

BOYS BB:  Covina 52, Los Al 45

The Griffins fell in first round action of the St. John Bosco/Gahr Tournament, as Covina downed them 52-45.  Los Al, which is now 3-4 on the season, plays Loyola (7-4)  tonight at 6pm

GIRLS BB: Orangewood Academy 51, Los Al 42

Last Saturday, the Los Al Lady hoopsters defeated Orangewood Academy to win the Hawk Holiday Classic. Tuesday night the Spartans got revenge, downing the Griffins 51-42.   Junior Sydney Gandy led the way for Los Al with 13 points, 4 assists; Makayla Burdette had 8 points, 4 rb’s; Molly Clarke 7 points, 9 rb’s; Latavia Miller 6 points, 5 rb’s.

Los Al, which drops to 7-2 on the season, hopes to get back on track against Valley Christian today at 3:30pm.   

SOCCER: Girls start Mater Dei Invitational tonight

The Los Al Girls soccer team, fresh off winning their third straight Aliso Cup championship, open pool play at the always tough Mater Dei Invitational tonight against Villa Park at 6:30.  
The Boys have today off but will compete in the West Coast Showcase, taking on host Downey tomorrow at 5pm

In between their busy winters sports game and practices, some members of the Los Al Boys basketball program managed to squeeze in some time volunteering to work the Youth Center’s Christmas Tree lot.  Well done, boys!
