Los Al sprints past Millikan 59-0 in long-awaited football opener

The Los Alamitos Griffins returned to the football field Friday night in impressive fashion, routing Millikan 59-0.

The game — the second Varsity game ever played at Los Alamitos High, — finally put to an end the Covid-caused high school football hiatus.  It was watched in person by only parents and some school administrators, due to guidelines from the California Department of Health.

Touted Griffin sophomore quarterback Malachi Nelson threw three touchdowns, finishing the game 13/23 for 249 yards and three touchdowns. Another touted soph Makai Lemon had one of those TDs, taking a quick screen and sprinting 91-yards through the Millikan defense.  Lemon had four catches for 115 yards and an interception on defense.

Los Al opens its Sunset League play next week against defending league champ Corona Del Mar.  The Sea Kings down Los Al 49-14 last season.
